Diet and Your skin

 

For a blemish-free, sparkling skin, you must keep in mind the following five points:

1. Eat wisely.
2. Take plenty of rest.
3. Learn proper breathing.
4. Keep your body supple.
5. Observe cleanliness.

The skin must be constantly renewed to remain healthy. This means that cell movement must be encouraged by good circulation. Vitamin C purifies and vitalizes the bloodstream. It is found in citrus fruits like orange, lemon and grapefruit. Green vegetables and potatoes also contain Vitamin C. The important point here is that Vitamin C cannot be stored by the body and so must be supplied daily. 

 

For healthy formation, the skin also needs Vitamin B2 from fresh vegetables, milk and whole wheat. Alcohol, coffee and tea interfere with the body’s ability to assimilate Vitamin B. If you replace them by unsweetened orange or grapefruit juice, you are doing your skin a good service. Diet is a widely discussed subject-what to eat and what not to eat. It is advised that you must eat a little of everything. 

Do’s 

  • Eating at regular hours helps the intestines to function properly and as a result clears the complexion. 

  • Always prefer fresh to canned food. 

  • Drink a lot of water ( five to six glasses a day) to eliminate the toxins from your blood. 

  •  Don’t eat a heavy lunch as it makes one sleepy. Enjoy a substantial meal in the evening in a relaxed atmosphere, such as an hour before you go to bed so that the digestive process is completed. 

  • Eat slowly and cheerfully. 

Dont’s

  • Avoid fried and greasy foods, sweets and alcohol. They can cause blemishes and blotchiness.

  • Beware of raw meat, starchy foods and alcoholic drinks which are the natural enemies of your liver and your skin. 

Rest


The conditions of life are exhausting in the present – day world. Life has brought more responsibilities, duties and worries. You must sleep at least eight hours every night and more than eight hours when feeling run down. Therefore, a third of your life should be spend in bed for complete rest.


You must relax occasionally during the day to restore your energy. Try the Hollywood “Beauty Angel”. Lie on the floor on your back and put the feet up on a chair. Stay in this position for a few minutes as this will send the blood to your head and increase the blood supply to the scalp. Do not stay in the “Beauty Angel” position for more than 20 minutes in a day.

Do’s

  • Do not read in bed, but if you must, then read a boring book. 

  • Relax completely in bed. Normal sleep is very essential for a healthy complexion. 

  • Avoid anything which might excite or stimulate you, such as noisy entertainment, arguments, use of alcohol and tobacco. 

  •  Before going to bed, wash in warm water and take a warm soothing drink. 

  • When you wake up after a sound sleep, allow yourself five minutes to stretch. 

Dont’s

  • Avoid taking sleeping pills and tranquillisers.

  • Do not drink tea or coffee after 6 p.m. Have a light dinner. 

  • Take a quiet walk before going to bed.
