Patchy Baldness
The sudden appearance of small bald circles on the female scalp may seem like a world shattering event. It is even more alarming if these patches grow larger and join up. The causative factors of baldness are almost the same as those which contribute to premature graying of hair. It may be due to serious disease, anaemia, great anxiety or sudden shock. Premature baldness is generally hereditary and it is difficult to cure. Eczema of the scalp also leads to baldness in some cases. If the baldness is due to any serious disease, a naturopathic cure will be beneficial. The drugs recommended for premature graying would help to check falling of hair also but consult your doctor for this. Once the hair has fallen and the follicles have closed, nothing can be done. There are a few home remedies for patchy baldness. Preserve mangoes in oil for a period of one year and rub this oil on the scalp.
Another home-remedy is to grind the remains of tobacco in a hookah in mustard oil and use it for massaging the scalp.
Alopecia is the technical term for any form of loss of hair. The natural falling of the hair should not be confused with alopeica. In natural falling of hair, these patches nearly always regrow after six to twelve months without any treatment. The new hair is often white but later becomes the normal colour. The hair lost in alopeica does not regrow, unless special treatment is given to encourage hair growth. Alopeica is not infectious. Some medical authorities believe it to be caused by a disturbance of the sympathetic nervous system. Alopecia is a particular type of baldness in patches and with proper treatment, the bald patches again grow hair, but it takes months for the full growth. Streroid tablets produce regrowth of hair in patches, but it has been observed that hair falls out again. Local injections of steroids and strong steroid applications may accelerate regrowth but to do so may cause thinning and pitting of the scalp. Producing an allergic eczema on the scalp using chemicals or plant extracts, may work, but they have to produce a severe eczema. Research is going on for a solution. One must consult a skin specialist for allopathic treatment. Alopecia is generally of three types : Alopecia senilis which usually occurs in old age, where the h air loss is permanent; Alopeica premature is the form of baldness beginning any time before middle age by a slow thinning process; and Alopecia aerata is the sudden falling of hair in round patches or baldness and may happen even at a young age.
